I am offering a Fleece Workshop in my studio at Ewe Can Do It Sheep Farm.

We will play with fleeces all day long, exploring the various systems used to grade fleeces for end product usage, strengths and weakness that can be found in fleeces and how to determine the value of a fleece for sale.

Here is the schedule for the day:

AM: 9:30 to 12:30  Exploring Wool/Fleece:

Goal:

  • To learn about the various wool types and how to determine their use
  • To know what to look for in a fleece: the good points and the faults
  • To know how to prepare a fleece for show

At the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Understand the three grading systems.
  • Recognize a fleece as it fits into the grading systems.
  • Evaluate a fleece for its strengths and weaknesses
  • Determine if the faults can be corrected with minimal effort
  • Choose the end use that is best suited for this find of fleece.

Assignment:

  • Before we break for lunch
  • Each participant will receive three samples of wool and a sample card to complete.
  • Group exercise: The group will evaluate 20 samples of wool and (mystery) fiber to identify
    and evaluate for faults.

LUNCH 12:30 – 1:15 PM

PM SESSION:  1:15 – 4:00 PM

Goal:

To practice the skills learned in the morning.
There will be fleeces on hand for judging
